Twitch setup for parents

Enabling Chat Filters (as a viewer)

Filters can block offensive language (profanity, discrimination, etc.) in live chats.

  1. During a stream, scroll to the chat box.
  2. Click the Settings icon (bottom-right, next to "Chat").
  3. Select Chat Filters → Toggle ON (turns purple).

Reporting a Streamer

If a streamer violates guidelines, you can report them.

  1. Below the live video, click the three dots → Report [username].
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts. (Twitch will review your report.)

Reporting/Blocking a User in Chat

  1. In chat, click the three dots next to the username.
  2. Choose Block or Report → follow prompts.

Changing Chat Settings

  1. Sign in at twitch.tv → Click your Profile icon (top-right) → Settings → Channel and Videos.
  2. Select Stream Manager → Click the Settings icon (chat’s bottom-right).
  3. Toggle preferences for group chats/private messages.

Changing Mature Content Settings

For streamers 18+ with younger viewers:

  1. From Home Dashboard → Settings → Stream.
  2. Under Mature Content, toggle ON (purple tick)

Changing Moderation Settings

Recommended for younger streamers/audiences:

  1. Go to Home Dashboard → Settings → Moderation → AutoMod Rulesets.
  2. Select a moderation level (1 = lowest, 4 = strictest)
  3. Save.

(AutoMod uses AI to filter harmful messages.)

Blocking Terms and Phrases

  1. Navigate to Home Dashboard → Settings → Moderation → Blocked Terms and Phrases.
  2. Search for a term → Choose Private (only you see blocked terms) or Public (all mods see them) → Add.

Chats containing these words will be blocked
