Pinterest setup for parents

Customising the Home Feed

Adjust what appears on your child’s feed to ensure age-appropriate and wellbeing-focused content.

  1. Open feed settings
    1. Tap the profile icon → Tap the three dots (top-right) → Tap Settings
  2. Tune the home feed
    1. Select Home feed tuner → Tap Topics
  3. Add or remove topics
    1. Tap Add topics to choose interests
    2. Tap the tick mark next to a topic to remove it from the feed

Filtering Comments

Prevent specific words or phrases from appearing in comment sections.

  1. Access social permissions
    • Tap your profile → Tap the three dots (top-right) → Tap Settings
  2. Turn on manual filtering
    • Tap Social permissions → Toggle Manual filter to On
  3. Add keywords
    • Enter words or phrases to block, separated by commas → Tap Save

Note: This filter only affects comments, not the feed content.

Managing Push Notifications

Reduce distractions and screen time by limiting notifications.

  1. Go to notification settings
    • Tap your profile → Three dots(top-right) → Settings
  2. Adjust notifications
    • Tap Notifications → Select By push notification
  3. Turn off alerts
    • Toggle off individual notifications or tap Turn off all

Setting Up Privacy Permissions

Control what data Pinterest collects and how others see your child’s activity.

  1. Access privacy settings
    • Go to Settings from the profile menu → Tap Privacy and data
  2. Toggle privacy options
    • Turn settings Off (grey) to increase privacy
    • Key settings include:
  3. Search privacy: hides profile from search engines
  4. Store contacts: prevents syncing device contacts
  5. Data personalisation: limits advertising and recommendations based on app usage

Turning On Two-Factor Authentication

Add extra security to your child’s Pinterest account.

  1. Open security settings
    • Go to Settings → Tap Security and log ins
  2. Enable two-factor authentication
    • Toggle the setting to On
    • Make sure the account email is verified with a secure password

Reporting a Pin

Help keep Pinterest safe by reporting inappropriate or harmful Pins.

  1. Report a Pin
    • Tap the three dots (top-right of the Pin) → Tap Report Pin
  2. Submit your report
    • Choose a reason → Tap Report
    • Optionally, toggle to Block the user at the same time

Blocking or Reporting a User

Prevent further interaction with or report a user who is spamming.

  1. Go to the user’s profile
    • Tap the three dots next to Follow (or Following)
  2. Choose an action
    • Select Block to stop interaction
    • Select Report user for spam →Tap Block or Report to confirm

Note: You can only report users for spam; report inappropriate content by reporting the Pin directly.

Deleting or Deactivating the Account

Take a break or permanently remove account data.

  1. Open account management
    • From your profile, tap the three dots → Tap Settings → Tap Account management
  2. Choose your option
    • Tap Deactivate account to take a break
    • Tap Delete your data and account for permanent deletion → Follow the on-screen instructions
