EA setup for parents

Setting up a Family Account

To manage screen time and spending for your children, begin by creating a family account in the EA app.

To create a family account:

1. Step 1 – Set up your own EA app account before creating one for your child. Use your own email and a secure password your child doesn’t know or use.

2. Step 2 – On the EA app home screen, click your profile icon in the top right. Then click on Settings.

3. Step 3 – Go to the "Family playtime" tab at the top of the screen. This is where you can add and manage family members.

Creating a Child Account

Parents can create either child or teen accounts through the EA app.

Child accounts do not have access to online gameplay and need parental approval. You will be able to control which games they use and track their activity.

To create a child account:

1. Step 1 – Start a new account setup. Enter your child’s correct date of birth and your country. In the UK, anyone under 13 is given a child account by default. Click NEXT.

2. Step 2 – Enter your EA account email. Then choose a username and password for your child – this should be different from yours. Confirm your permission and click CREATE ACCOUNT.

3. Step 3 – Check your email and follow the steps to activate the child’s account. Once activated, you’ll be able to manage their screen time and game access.

When they turn 13, you’ll have the option to upgrade them to a teen account.

Adding a Teen Account

Teen accounts (age 13–17) allow online play and don’t require parental approval.

You can still set limits on their screen time and how much they spend.

To add a teen account:

1. Step 1 – In your account settings, select "Family playtime" then click +ADD TEEN ACCOUNT.

2. Step 2 – If your teen doesn’t already have an EA account, create one together. If they do, enter their EA email address and click SUBMIT.

3. Step 3 – On your teen’s account, open "Family playtime" and click APPROVE. You will now be able to monitor and manage their activity.

Managing Screen Time with Playtime Tracking

You can set up time limits to help your child or teen balance their screen time.

For child accounts, sign into their account to track usage. For teens, follow the steps below.

To manage playtime:

1. Step 1 – On your account, open the Family playtime screen. Find your teen’s account and click MANAGE.

2. Step 2 – Turn on playtime tracking by selecting ENABLE next to Enable playtime tracking. Then go to the Playtime dashboard and click MANAGE under Playtime controls.

3. Step 3 – Under Playtime controls, turn on the Manage player controls toggle (it should turn blue). Then, set weekday and weekend screen time limits. You can keep them the same each day or vary them.

4. Step 4 – Scroll to Playtime notifications and turn on the options using the toggles.

a. Early warning: You’ll get an email when your child has 15 minutes left.

b. Time limit reached: You’ll receive an email once the allowed time has been used.

c. Time limit exceeded: If your child plays beyond their limit, you’ll get hourly updates for up to three hours.

Setting Spending Limits

Child accounts can’t make purchases or access online play. Teen accounts can, so it’s important to set spending rules.

To apply spending limits:

1. Step 1 – In your account, go to Family playtime settings and click MANAGE next to your teen’s account.

2. Step 2 – Scroll to Spending controls and click MANAGE. This will open a page in your web browser.

3. Step 3 – Click MANAGE next to your teen’s name. Select EDIT, then set limits for both ‘game and expansion’ purchases and ‘microcontent’ purchases. Click SUBMIT to save.

Upgrading a Child Account to a Teen Account

When your child turns 13 in the UK, their account becomes eligible for an upgrade to a teen account.

To upgrade their account:

1. Step 1 – Your child will receive a prompt when logging in, letting them know they can upgrade their account.

2. Step 2 – Log in to their account to complete the upgrade. They must have a personal email address to do this.

After upgrading, make sure to add their new teen account to your Family playtime settings to continue monitoring screen time and spending limits.
