When Spotlight Sound lost its premises in the Rettendon fire, Every Child Online stepped in to provide essential technology to help the team continue operating while they rebuild. Read how a simple act of support can make a big difference during difficult times.

Many people across Essex will have heard about the devastating fire in Rettendon last Friday. The incident affected a number of local businesses, including Spotlight Sound, an Essex-based audio visual and event production company whose premises were destroyed. Spotlight Sound has spent more than a decade delivering sound, lighting and AV solutions for events, conferences and venue installations across the UK.
After hearing about the fire and the impact it had on Spotlight Sound, we wanted to provide whatever support we could. The events industry has played an important role in Every Child Online's growth over the years, making it an easy decision to give back.
To support the team while they recover, Every Child Online has loaned Spotlight Sound a range of essential equipment, including laptops, monitors, keyboards and mice. Access to reliable technology is essential for almost every business, allowing teams to communicate with clients, manage bookings and keep day-to-day tasks moving.
Mike Tarbard, Founder of Every Child Online, said: "Seeing the impact the fire had on Spotlight Sound was incredibly difficult. We were pleased to be able to provide some essential equipment and hope it helps the team continue operating while they focus on rebuilding. We wish everyone at Spotlight Sound all the very best for the future."
Following the support from businesses and the wider events industry, Sam Dimond, Director of Spotlight Sound, shared: "The support we've received has been overwhelming. From friends, customers, suppliers and others across the events industry, we've been reminded just how strong this community really is."
Although Every Child Online is best known for refurbishing donated technology for children and families experiencing digital exclusion, we're also proud to support the organisations and communities that have supported us over the years.
Every Child Online exists to give technology a second life. Most of the time that means refurbishing devices for children and families, but on this occasion, it meant helping a local business continue operating after an unexpected disaster.
Replacing equipment is only one part of recovering from a fire, and we know there's much more involved than simply getting back online. If these devices help Spotlight Sound continue supporting their customers while they rebuild, then we're pleased we could play a small part in their recovery.
Everyone at Every Child Online wishes the entire Spotlight Sound team the very best as they recover, and we look forward to seeing them back doing what they do best.
