Why We Created the Programme

Work experience can make all the difference to a young person’s confidence, career prospects, and life direction. But too often, placements for 14–18-year-olds involve low-value tasks with little relevance to their interests or studies.

We wanted to change that. By opening our doors to students, we offer structured placements that allow them to develop genuine technical skills while contributing to projects that help bridge the digital divide.

How It Works

  1. School & College Partnerships – We collaborate with local education providers to identify students who would benefit from a tech-focused placement.

  2. Structured Learning – Students join us in a safe, supportive workspace where they learn IT repair, device refurbishment, admin skills, and digital safety awareness.

  3. Mentoring & Progress Tracking – Each student is guided by experienced team members and volunteers, with progress monitored throughout the placement.

  4. Meaningful Contribution – Students work on real devices destined for families, young people, and community groups in need — making a tangible difference from day one.

  5. Pathways Forward – Many participants go on to further education, apprenticeships, jobs, or ongoing volunteer roles in the sector.

How It Supports Our Mission

The programme invests in the next generation of tech talent while reducing the risk of young people becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). It strengthens local skills, builds confidence, and connects education directly with social good.

Who Benefits

Students (14–18 years)

Gain confidence, hands-on skills, and a sense of achievement.

Schools & Colleges

Meet careers and work experience requirements with meaningful placements.

Communities

Benefit from refurbished devices prepared by students during their placement.

What Makes It Special

Unlike many placements where students spend most of their time shadowing or performing small administrative tasks, our programme places them at the heart of meaningful work. The devices they help refurbish are given directly to families and young people facing digital exclusion — so every student leaves knowing they have made a real difference.
