Why was this project created?

Why was this project created? Our Fetes and Fairs project was created as another way to meet the community face-to-face, start meaningful conversations about online safety, digital literacy, and our mission to close the digital divide. We realised that traditional community events — hosted by schools, councils, and local groups — were the perfect place to connect with parents, children, and potential supporters in a relaxed setting. They give us the chance to promote our training events, share online safety resources, and even inspire attendees to speak to their employers about donating surplus IT equipment.

How Does it work, step-by-step?

  1. We identify local fetes, fairs, and community events run by schools, councils, and other partners.

  2. Our team of staff, volunteers, and students set up a welcoming stand.

  3. We talk to families about online safety risks and how to protect children and young adults.

  4. We hand out information about our charity, signpost to training sessions, and direct visitors to our website for resources.

  5. We sell CRE8 products — jewellery, clocks, gifts — made from recycled tech, raising funds for our work.

  6. We accept donated tech on the day and can securely wipe devices using portable equipment.

  7. Where possible, we add interactive elements, such as letting people try a META Quest headset, to engage both adults and children.

How does this support your overall mission?

Fetes and Fairs help us tackle digital isolation and online safety risks at a grassroots level. They are a direct link to the public, offering education, resources, and an invitation to join our mission — whether by attending training, donating equipment, or volunteering.

What are the measurable goals or outcomes?

What makes this project special/unique?

We bring a multi-layered approach to community events. While many stands sell products or hand out leaflets, we combine education, creativity, tech recycling, and interactive activities. From trying on a pair of circuit board cufflinks to learning how to spot online scams, our stall leaves a lasting impression. In one day, we might meet a parent who books safety training, a volunteer who joins our team, and a business manager who later donates dozens of laptops.
