Why We Created the Programme

For many, returning to work after a difficult period canfeel daunting. Traditional job-seeking routes often lack the empathy, patience, and flexibility needed for a successful re-entry. We saw an opportunity tooffer something different — a non-judgemental space where people could rebuildat their own pace, supported by training, mentoring, and real-world tasks thatmatter.

How It Works

  1. Referral & Applications – Participants are referred by partner organisations or apply directly.

  2. Gentle Start – We begin with simple, confidence-building tasks to reintroduce routine and responsibility.

  3. Skills Development – As confidence grows, participants take on more complex roles such as device refurbishment, admin, customer service, or creative projects.

  4. Mentoring & Emotional Support – Ongoing guidance ensures challenges are addressed and achievements are celebrated.

  5. Pathway to Employment – Many progress to jobs, volunteering, or further training, leaving with references, practical skills, and renewed self-belief.

How It Supports Our Mission

The programme reduces isolation, builds valuable digital and workplace skills, and restores confidence. It directly addresses the social and digital divides, ensuring no one is left behind because of life’s challenges.

Who Benefits

Adults out of work

due to mental health recovery, bereavement, or other life circumstances.

Mental health support partners

who want a trusted environment for their clients.

Local employers

looking for skilled, motivated people with proven commitment.

What Makes It Special

Some of our most committed team members began their journey here. One participant told us,

“I came in broken — I left with pride.”

That’s the heart of Stepping Stone: transforming uncertainty into confidence, and potential into progress.
