More than access to a device

Having access to technology is only part of being digitally included. For some people, knowing how to use that technology confidently can be just as significant a barrier.

Our Community Outreach hubs bring the two together. People can access computers within their local community while receiving friendly, practical support from volunteers when they need it.

Whether someone needs help getting online, completing a form or simply understanding how to use something, our volunteers are there to guide them.

What can people use the hubs for?

  1. Education – Complete school or college work and access online learning.

  2. Employment – Search and apply for jobs, create applications and access employment opportunities.

  3. Health – Book GP or hospital appointments and access online health services.

  4. Everyday essentials – Video call friends and family and stay in touch online.

  5. Staying connected– Many progress to jobs, volunteering, or further training, leaving with references, practical skills, and renewed self-belief.

  6. Online confidence– Learn how to use technology and shop online more safely with support from our volunteers.

How it works

  1. Technology in the community – We provide refurbished technology within local community spaces where people can access it.

  2. A place to get online – People can use the computers for education, employment, healthcare, essential services and everyday digital tasks.

  3. Support when it's needed – Our volunteers are available to help people overcome technology access issues, learn how to use digital tools and build their confidence online.

Our first hub

The Unity Centre, Basildon

Our first Community Outreach hub is based at The Unity Centre in Eastgate, bringing access to technology and practical digital support directly into the local community.

Visitors can use the computers for everyday tasks, while volunteers are available to help those who need additional support using technology or accessing services online.

Why Community Outreach?

Access shouldn't end with providing a device.

Digital inclusion also means having the skills, confidence and support to use technology effectively. By putting devices and volunteers within local community spaces, we're helping people overcome both sides of the digital divide.

If you are looking for more community partners, we can make this much stronger:
