Every Child Online is proud to announce that Trainline, the leading independent rail and coach travel platform in Europe, will donate surplus laptops, desktops, mobile phones, screens, accessories and other unused technology to the charity. These devices will be provided to children and young people living in digital poverty to help bridge the digital divide.
The initiative began following a visit to Trainline’s London headquarters where Michael Tarbard, Chief Executive of Every Child Online, addressed the Workplace Technology, Security and Privacy team. More than twenty staff attended the session, which explored the reality that one in five children in the United Kingdom do not have access to a computer at home. Michael highlighted how this lack of digital access restricts opportunities, stifles creativity and prevents young people from discovering skills that could lead to future careers in technology fields, including those represented in the room.
The reception from the team was warm, encouraging and supportive, with staff expressing a clear interest in helping Every Child Online achieve its goals.
Mike Hyde, Chief Technology Officer at Trainline, said:
“Trainline is delighted to support Every Child Online’s mission to close the digital divide. By donating IT equipment that is no longer required, we hope that young people in digital poverty can gain access to essential digital tools and opportunities. This partnership reflects our commitment to sustainability and social impact; reducing waste and empowering future generations through technology.”
Alongside the digital inclusion impact of these donations, the partnership also supports Trainline’s wider environmental aims. By directing reusable equipment away from electronic waste streams, Trainline strengthens its contribution to a more sustainable technology lifecycle and supports the circular economy.
Michael Tarbard, Chief Executive Officer of Every Child Online, said:
“We are truly grateful for Trainline’s leadership and generosity. Their support will place essential technology into the hands of children and young people who find themselves excluded from digital education and developing digital skills. The impact extends far beyond the devices themselves. It opens doors to learning, confidence and future career possibilities in the technology sector. Trainline’s commitment to sustainability and social value makes them an ideal partner in our mission to ensure every young person has the opportunity to reach their potential.”
The partnership confirms Trainline’s UK operations as an official IT equipment donation partner for Every Child Online, joining the growing number of UK businesses that are choosing to support the charity through responsible technology reuse, environmental leadership and meaningful social impact. The charity’s professional and dynamic approach allows corporate partners to meet their ESG and CSR goals while transforming unused technology into real opportunities for children and young people.
